Michael A. Belfort, MD, PhD
Director of Perinatal Research

Dr. Michael A. Belfort received his medical degree from the University of Witwaterstand Medical School (UWMS) in Johannesburg, South Africa, his postgraduate Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and his PhD from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. He completed Internships in General Surgery and Internal Medicine at UWMS. Dr. Belfort completed Residencies in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Cape Town Medical School in South Africa and at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He completed a Fellowship at Baylor in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

Dr. Belfort is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Maternal-Fetal Medicine by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a professor of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Utah. He is the author of “Hypertension in Pregnancy” as well as being a well-regarded speaker, author, and researcher.


Melissa A. Herbst, MD

Dr. Melissa A. Herbst received her medical degree from Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Louisiana, completed her Internship and Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and completed a Fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Case Western Reserve University at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

While in Residency, Dr. Herbst was a member of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department Research Review Board at her facility and in her recent Fellowship was a MetroHealth Center Scientific Contest award winner. She was recognized for excellence in research each year during her time there.


Gary A. Dildy III, MD
Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, MountainStar Division

Dr. Dildy graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed his Obstetrics & Gynecology residency and Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Between 1991 and 2000, Dr. Dildy was Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo and was on faculty at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City. From 2000 to 2005 he served as Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of Obstetric Research at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. Currently he is employed in Salt Lake City by Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), and resides in Park City.

Dr. Dildy is also a Clinical Professor at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecological and Maternal-Fetal Medicine by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Dildy is Editor-in-Chief of “Critical Care Obstetrics” (4th Edition) and has presented and authored numerous abstracts, chapters, and original research papers on intrapartum fetal assessment and obstetric emergencies.


Robert Ball, MD
Director, Fetal Therapy Initiative, HCA

Dr. Ball received his medical degree from Cambridge and Oxford University in England. He completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Fellowship training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Ultrasound at the University of California, San Francisco, followed. Dr. Ball then worked at Washington University in St. Louis, followed at the University of Utah/Intermountain Healthcare where he was the Director of the OB Diagnostic and Treatment Center. He then returned to the University of California, San Francisco, to work as the maternal-fetal medicine specialist with the UCSF Fetal Treatment Center, the birth place of Fetal Surgery.

Dr. Ball is now the Director of the Fetal Therapy Initiative for HCA and remains an Associate Clinical Professor at UCSF.

Dr. Ball is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
