What Happens When You Are Referred ?
Once you have been referred by your doctor, or have contacted us yourself, the nurse coordinator will call to speak with you to gather information and answer any preliminary questions you may have. She will assist you with insurance authorizations and obtaining accommodations as needed. She will make sure that all tests and reports are received prior to your visit with the physician.
On your arrival to the clinic, you can expect to receive a detailed ultrasound examination of your twins by an experienced sonographer as well as the doctor. We will be looking at the size of the twins, the amount of fluid around each of them, the bladder of each of the twins, and how their hearts are functioning. You can expect this ultrasound to take about an hour.
After your ultrasound, you will then meet with Dr. Ball and/or Dr. Belfort and the nurse coordinator to discuss your exam and decide on the best course of care for you and your babies.
If laser photocoagulation therapy is the treatment chosen, you will meet with the nurse coordinator to discuss when and where to come for your laser surgery as well as how to prepare for the surgery. A hospital representative will call you for your pre-admission information.
